Key Stage 3 Curriculum

Our Key Stage 3 curriculum includes a broad selection of core sports that are delivered to every student. All students participate in the same sports across the year, ensuring inclusiveness for all.

At the start of Year 7, students participate in baseline testing to ensure groupings and lesson planning is set to a challenging level for all.

Students will participate in assessment lessons at the end of each half-term, so they can monitor progress and improvement. This is on top of the regular feedback students will receive every lesson.

Sports in KS3: Basketball, Football, Netball, Rugby, Health Related Fitness, Athletics, Badminton, Table Tennis, Dance, Outdoor Adventurous Activities, Cricket, Tennis, Rounders, Cross-Country.

Additional enrichment activities for KS3 students: Extra-Curricular clubs before/during/after school, interform competitions, sports day, sports trips.

Key stage 4

All De La Salle students participate in a structured core PE programme, once a week, with the aim of:

  • Maintaining physical activity levels and engagement levels.
  • Promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.
  • Encouragement of participation in lifelong sport / physical activity.
  • Developing key life skills and leadership skills (such as teamwork; co-operation; communication; resilience).

The programme for both year groups consists of competitive pathways as well as recreational involvement, so students can tailor their lessons to their preferences:

Competitive Pathway: Skill development in Basketball, Netball, Football, Badminton, Table Tennis, Athletics, Tennis, Striking & Fielding Sports.

Recreational Pathway: Games, Orienteering, Leadership, Health Related Fitness, Summer Sports

In Year 10/11 we do not formally assess performance in practical activities. We simply look at the attitude to learning and give students an ATL grade.

There is not a qualification for Core PE. However, students do have the option of participating in a Sport Leader Leadership course, which can be added to their CV for college and employment purposes.
